Storage
Chapter 8 of 10
Store, organize, and manage your application's files—all from your Rumata workspace.
About Storage
Rumata's Storage gives your application a place to keep files such as images, documents, videos, and other uploaded content.
Rumata provides S3-compatible object storage for any file type. You can combine storage with workflows and Activities to transform and process files as part of your application.
You can browse files, upload new ones, organize storage, manage access, and monitor usage directly through System Explorer.
Whether your application needs profile pictures, customer documents, or downloadable resources, Rumata provides the storage tools to manage them.
Before you start
Open your factory workspace and navigate to System Explorer → Data → Storage.
Your files are organized into buckets, which are containers used to group and store related files.
For example, your application might use one bucket for profile pictures and another for customer documents.
1. Explore your files and buckets
The Storage section lets you browse the files stored by your application and see how much storage they're using.
Find your files
- Open System Explorer → Data → Storage.
- In the Buckets panel, select the bucket you want to explore.
- Review its used storage capacity and transfer information.
- Navigate through folders using Root and the available folder controls.
- Use Filter this folder to quickly find specific files.
Understand the file list
Each file or object displays useful information:
- Key: The file's unique location or identifier within the bucket.
- Size: How much storage the file uses.
- Modified: When the file was last updated.
- Status: The available status information for the object.
- Actions: Operations you can perform on the file.
You can sort the list to find recently updated or larger files.
2. Upload files to your storage
You can upload files directly to your application's storage without leaving Rumata.
Upload a file
- Open the bucket where you want to store the file.
- Click Upload or open Show operations panel.
- Select Upload, then drag and drop your files or choose them from your computer.
- Set the Destination key or prefix to choose where the files will be stored.
- Review the Overwrite option to decide what should happen if a file with the same key already exists.
- Click Queue upload to start the transfer process.
- Wait for the upload to finish, then refresh the file list to verify that your files appear.
Understanding Overwrite
- Overwrite off: Existing files with the same destination key are skipped.
- Overwrite on: An uploaded file may replace the existing object at that key.
Always double-check the destination before replacing existing files.
Check your result
Your uploaded files should appear in the selected bucket with the correct name, location, and size.
3. Manage and organize your files
As your application grows, you may need to rename, move, or directly update stored objects.
Rumata provides these options through the file operations panel.
Move or rename a file
- Open the Operations panel.
- Select Move / rename.
- Choose the source object and enter the intended destination key.
- Review the overwrite setting to avoid unintentionally replacing another file.
- Confirm the operation.
- Once the operation completes, browse the destination to verify the result.
Write an object directly
For more advanced operations, Put object allows you to write an object directly to a specified storage key.
- Open the Operations panel.
- Select Put object.
- Complete the required object information and destination key.
- Review the configuration and any overwrite options.
- Submit the operation and verify its result.
If your application references the old file location, you may need to update those references after moving it.
Always review confirmation messages before performing destructive operations.
4. Monitor storage usage and manage access
Rumata helps you understand how much file storage your application uses and control who can access it.
Check your storage usage
- Open System Explorer → Data → Storage.
- Select the bucket you want to manage.
- Review its current storage usage and transfer information.
- Open Bucket actions → Update quota to review available capacity settings.
- Save any intended changes after checking their impact.
Understand storage and transfer usage
There are three important measurements:
- Storage capacity: The amount of storage allocated or available to your bucket.
- Storage used: The amount of data currently stored.
- Transfer usage: The amount of data transferred during the displayed usage period.
These measurements are separate. For example, downloading the same file multiple times may increase transfer usage without increasing the amount of storage used.
Manage bucket access
You can also control which groups are allowed to access a bucket.
- Select the relevant bucket.
- Open Bucket actions → Manage access.
- Review the groups and available permissions.
- Adjust access only where necessary.
- Save your changes.
5. Troubleshoot file operations
If a file doesn't appear or an operation fails, Rumata provides information to help identify the issue.
If an upload was skipped
Check whether:
- A file already exists at the destination key.
- Overwrite is turned off.
- The correct bucket and destination were selected.
If an operation fails
- Open the operations panel and review the reported error.
- Confirm that the bucket and object key are correct.
- Check that your account has the required permissions.
- Review the available storage capacity and transfer allowances.
- Resolve the reported issue before retrying.
- Verify the final operation result and confirm that the file appears in the intended location.
Check your result
Your file should be available at the expected destination, and the operation should show a completed result.
Your application's files, in one place
With Rumata, your application can store and manage files alongside its database, workflows, and backend services.
You can organize your storage, monitor usage, manage permissions, and work with files directly in System Explorer—without having to manage a separate storage platform.
